This was one of Carl's first
original drawings. Carl found the bright overhead sun created extreme contrasts
in the light and shadows in this scene so that it was perfect for a black and white
pen and ink creation. This is the first drawing where he detailed various trees
with their own unique foliage and stance. This is the first time Carl
concentrated on perspective and creating straight lines without a ruler.
