This is a drawing of a new cabin at the Aspen Resort in Orr, MN. Carl started out to make this his first watercolor painting by doing a pen and ink and then washing it with color. After he started he realized this was another one of those scenes where the direct overhead lighting provided extremely fine details and dramatic contrast between the sun and shade areas. So, after drawing for a couple of days on this he choose not to wash it with watercolor but to put the intricate detail into the stairs and decking of the cabin. Carl was especially pleased with the transparency of the left side of the stairs. |
