This is Carl's very first abstract painting. Actually, this is a small painting (just 8" X 10" on a student canvas board). Acrylic paint dries in about 10 or 15 minutes (Carl usually does not use a stay wet palette). With Carl's rather inexact method of producing the color he's looking for he invariably ends up with more paint than he needs for a particular subject. One day he decided to play with a "splatter board" as he calls it. He simply takes the left over paint as he paints his main painting and tries different brush and knife doodles on the small canvas board. This time the splatter board was actually kind of interesting so he gave it a name and added it to his collection. Carl does not like abstract art so keeping this painting marks a milestone in his art education.
