This piece was created with strong black quill pen ink in addition to some very fine technical pen strokes and specs. This drawing was particularly unique for Carl for two reasons: his experi- mentation in different ink patterns in the back- ground mountains, and as he recalls the traumatic moment when he placed the extreme black shadow on the right side of the boat. This drawing was inspired by a photograph in a magazine photo competition.
