A UPI news photo following the tragedy of 9/11/01 so captured Carl's attention he set out to develop this silhouette drawing of America's collective emotion of the time. This was a turning point experience in Carl's art though. He discovered that creating this drawing impaled his own emotions to the point he became depressed. His next drawing had to have nothing manmade in it.
