"Pasta Time" Carl's April painting project is a watercolor painting. Pasta fixing's on Carl's kitchen counter made for an interesting still photograph. The colors and values of the setting lend themselves to watercolor rendering. This is the largest watercolor Carl has tried yet. This is being done on a Montval (R) Watercolor Block (Canson) 12X16 140 lb. Cold Press white paper. Once again Carl began by sketching the subject on the paper with a drafting pencil. Carl eliminated things from the photograph he didn't want in the image and elongated the counter top to fill up the proper dimensions of the paper. Look below for a shot of the drawing with the contrast turned up. Things to watch with this painting: there is an incredible amount of detail available and the color contrasts are dramatic. Watercolor is a more challenging medium for Carl (he has had less experience with it) and he is hoping to make this painting interesting with light and shadows. This project is a painting based on a
