October 2, 2004 - It is Finished! See Narrative Below

"Palm Silhouette", Oil on Canvas
18" X 24" Landscape Painting

It is Done! After more than two months of painting (actually it came out to about 44 hours of painting time) Carl says he's ready to call this one complete. Of course it will have to dry for a month or two during which time Carl may apply another coat of paint on any of the elements that thin out too much.

Carl said he hasn't yet gotten a good photograph of the finished painting. The image above doesn't do the final work justice. He will experiment with trying to take a better photograph of it in the days ahead so he can post a better image here. Once the painting is dry he can do a high resolution scan of it and then he'll have a really good reproduction of it. After it gets scanned he can have it framed. But while it is drying Carl keeps it in a dust proof environment so it doesn't capture every piece of lint or dust in the air onto the drying surface.

So... there it is. Palm Silhouette. Carl says he's debating whether he will let that painting title stand, or if he will rename it when putting it into some coming show - maybe calling it "Puerto Vallarta" (the reference photo was taken by Carl's son-in-law when he was in Puerto Vallarta in the Spring of 2004).

So, what do you think of the final painting? Click on the Contact Carl button and send him an email with your comments. Thanks for watching the Easel Cam!

This project is an original painting Carl made based on a reference
photo of a morning silhouette of palm trees at the ocean.
