[Fish Stories 3]

October 30, 2005 - See Narrative Below

"Fish Stories", Acrylic Painting
18" X 24" Stretched Canvas

After priming the canvas and doing the sketch during the last session, Carl began roughing in the undercoats. During the next session Carl will rough in the lake surface with its black green value. Then he says the fun will begin, painting in the detail to make it all real.

Carl laughed tonight when he saw the colors he'd placed on the canvas. He said he was going to definitely have to consult the color wheel to see what he's done and how to "fix it". Color theory defines complimentary colors, and sets down the rules for the color palette. Carl is one who believes nature adheres to all the rules necessary for good art, but he admits he sometimes misreads nature's color hues. The light sky blue and dark hooker's green wouldn't be his first color combination choice if he didn't have the reference photo to work from.

This project is being painted on an 18" X 24" stretched canvas with Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylics.

This project is an original painting based on a photograph Carl took in the north woods of Minnesota on Pelican Lake near Orr..
