November 22, 2006 - It is Finished!

"Fish Stories", Acrylic Painting
18" X 24" Stretched Canvas

It's Finished! Or at least Carl thinks it is. He's going to look at it for a few days and see if he's missed anything. Tonight Carl said it was all rather anticlimactic. He painted for a couple of hours, playing to "randomize" the shoreline as he called it, making it look more random than uniform. Then he highlighted the close in weeds with a few shades of green. Finally he added 3 fishing bobbers to the water surface (it's hard to see them in a small image like above, but if you look carefully you can see them in front of the boat on either side and on the right side of the boat to the rear).

What a project! Carl had no idea when he started this painting over a year ago that it would take so long or take so many turns. Much of the delay and toil has paralleled his personal life over the past year with his wife's serious illness. He was reminded how important it is to keep some balance in his life; his hobby took a back seat to the more serious challenges. Nevertheless when the time was right he came back. And Carl says this painting will forever remind him of this past year's journey.

This project is being painted on an 18" X 24" stretched canvas with Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylics.

This project is an original painting based on a photograph Carl took in the north woods of Minnesota on Pelican Lake near Orr..
