[Amethyst Session 4]

                       May 31, 2004 - See Narrative Below

"Amethyst Sundown", Pen and Ink
8" X 10" Drawing Paper

Carl began adding color to the drawing this evening. The scene is a landscape at sunset with reflections across the lake in the foreground. The reference photo's coloration had a tremendous purple pink to the sky and in the fog across the base of the mountains. Carl didn't like the pink so much so he's darkened it up a bit into a purple "amethyst" type color where it is most pronounced. Carl is uncertain how the grass and lake will develop. He is having fun watching the drawing develop on the paper. He mentioned this evening that it is king of like watching one of the old polaroid photographs develop while you wait.

This experimental project uses a stippling technique
to to create the image. The only solid pen marks
are seen in the black tree silhouettes.

This project is an original drawing Carl made based on a reference image of a purple sunset.
