[Frozen Tranquility 4]

                      March 6, 2005 - See Narrative Below

"Frozen Tranquility", Acrylic Painting
18" X 24" Stretched Canvas

During tonight's session Carl began to outline the land's terraces and get a feel for the depth of the scene. He's discovered that the details will have to be very fine in the distance with gradually bolder features in the foreground of the snowy area to make the scene work properly (give the horizon the distance it needs).

Carl says the bottom third of the painting, the snowy foreground, will probably be the challenge of this painting. Each time Carl sets out to do a landscape there is some feature that takes him an inordinate amount of time to complete. He is learning to identify these challenges earlier in the painting. Perhaps someday he'll be able to know them before he picks up the brush to do a project.

This painting is being created on an 18" x 24" stretched canvas.

This project is an original acrylic painting based on a photograph Carl took in rural Southwestern Iowa.
