[Fish Stories 2]

October 29, 2005 - See Narrative Below

"Fish Stories", Acrylic Painting
18" X 24" Stretched Canvas

This is another in the continuing series of "Easel Cam" projects. Carl lets you watch as he paints. Actually Carl takes a still photo after each painting session. Each session lasts about 2 hours. You get to see both the successes and the mistakes, and you get to learn with Carl.

Once each year Carl makes a trip by himself into the North Woods of Minnesota for a week of fishing, site seeing, and relaxation. It was one of these trips several years ago that launched Carl's art hobby. And it was on his annual trip this last summer that Carl caught the reference photograph for this piece. The lake had laid out flat. Three friends put out in a boat to fish around an island near the resort where Carl stays. As the title says this is the stuff fish stories are made of.

Carl just finished an oil painting "Alice Lake" for his last project. So he decided to use acrylic to interpret this scene. Carl says he expects the biggest challenge will be developing the reflections on the lake surface. But he knows getting the people to look real will be a trick too.

This project is being painted on an 18" X 24" stretched canvas with Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylics.

This project is an original painting based on a photograph Carl took in the north woods of Minnesota on Pelican Lake near Orr..
