Cougar, Acrylic 14" X 18" Canvas
This shot shows the first ray of hope as Carl finds the drybrush technique
needed to create fur. There really isn't enough of it in this shot to show off
what Carl has found, but it will become more evident in the subsequent sessions
ahead. Carl has also begun using titanium white in the fur in this shot (earlier
whites were developed mostly with a white gesso in the underpaintings).
What's more, Carl has added some oranges and yellows here to accent the
lighting from the right side of the Cougar. [ If you have been watching the
photo sequence dates at the bottom of each frame you know that Carl went a week
without painting. Carl injured his neck somehow August 3rd so he took a week off
from work and painting to let it heal.].This project is taken from a book authored by
Kalon Baughan, "Painting the Faces of Wildlife"
