"Nocturnal Awakening" 18" X 24" Canvas, Acrylic Painting
The first paint added to the canvas is to establish the value components of the
painting. Carl will develop the sky and water first, with only a band of black
to represent the island. The trees on the island and their reflections in the
water will be added after the sky and water are the way Carl wants them. The
reference photograph "invokes the blues" as Carl puts it, in a very peaceful
way. While thinking about what to name the painting Carl started with ideas like
"Almost Done" pointing to the end of the day.But Carl wanted to have a name that
looked forward to the hours ahead instead of what had passed - so he's now
leaning toward a name like "Nocturnal Awakening" - a beginning of the night. This project is an original painting inspired
by a vacation photograph taken on Pelican Lake, Orr, MN while Carl was
staying at the Aspen Resort during the Summer of 2003.
