Carl's Summer Vacation 2004
Some of the sites...

A Deer having lunch eating some of the lake's vegetaion...

Even though Carl vacation's alone each year at Pelican Lake he's never really alone!

I always keep an eye out for company while I'm visiting the North Woods. One windy afternoon the wind blew my boat into an inlet and I looked up to see this guy chewing on some weeds he's pulled up out of the water.

 Rainbow

It seems like every year Carl gets a brief shower while he's sitting in the boat that is followed by a very pretty rainbow. This one was particularly bright...

I'm a coward when there's lightning in a storm, and when that happens I don't sit on the lake. But this was a cool afternoon downpour that was followed by some bright sunshine.

State Rock

This rocky point is a prime fishing spot.

I've caught a lot of fish sitting off this rock outcropping. This spot is only about 5 minutes from the Aspen Resort dock.

This is what the area looks like just east of Orr, Minnesota

The North Woods are always green and lush with growth.

The town of Orr is about 10 minutes away, by car, from the Aspen Resort. Or you can take your boat to town and tie it to the municipal dock that is within walking distance
from the grocery and general stores.

Loon Cabin

This is one of the single bedroom cabins at the resort.

The deck on this cabin has a great view of the resort's grounds. You can see the children play and watch the fisherman coming and going from the docks.

The large bay where Aspen Resort is located is lined with rock formations that were created when glaciers pushed through the area.

Pelican Lake  measures about 4 miles wide by 7 miles long.

I've found that it is quite enjoyable just to locate a quiet spot on the lake and sit for a while watching and listening to nature around you. In just a short time you can really "decompress". After 5 years (one week at a time) I still have only explored about half the lake.
