More Fish Pictures...

Fish Cleaning Room

Even when you're cleaning the fish you catch you can enjoy a great view of the lake.

The fish cleaning room is clean and airy. Every evening it gets a lot of use as fishermen bring back their catch of the day to get it ready for supper. I mostly enjoy catch and release so I don't spend much time in this place.

 Northern Pike

You cannot not catch Northern Pike on Pelican Lake!.

If I ever get impatient waiting to catch a fish all I've got to do is put a large beetle spin or red and white daredevil lure on the line and go trolling. Generally it doesn't take more than 5 minutes to hook up with a Northern on Pelican Lake when that's what you set out to do. This year I had an experience that truly makes for a great fish story (which no one will ever believe!): After trolling for a bit out in the middle of the lake I hooked up a large Northern. As I was reeling it in I realized I hadn't put a steel leader on my line and the fish I was pulling on was rather large. And, sure enough, my line broke (Northern Pike have sharp teeth). I was a little disappointed because the yellow lure I lost was the last one I had like that. But I went ahead and rigged up a daredevil lure, fired up the trolling motor and continued in my large circle pattern trolling for Northern. Sure enough, a couple of minutes later, I hooked up again. And this time I had a steel leader so this fish was not getting away. I netted the Northern and picked it up into the boat - and there was my yellow lure, along with the daredevil lure, decorating this Northern's lips!

Perch

Even the Perch in the bay are fun to catch.

I caught a lot of perch this year when I was fishing for crappie in the shallow areas of the bay..

 Smallmouth Bass

Pound for pound the smallmouth bass is probably the scrappiest fish in the lake.

I spend time each year looking for smallmouth bass. Some years I find them in the rocky areas along the shoreline. If I can pick a fish to catch it is the smallmouth. They rarely give up without first coming out of the water once or twice trying to throw the lure. I think it takes a little more patience and skill to get smallmouth into the boat.
